Education is the key word for a country to become a Superpower. During ancient times when India was a super powerful country under the leadership of Magadhan(Bihar) rulers, the capital of Indian education was also Bihar. Bihar had world's oldest University known as Nalanda University and Vikramshila University where students from all over the world used to come to study. But civilizations and situations changes with time. The education system in Bihar deteriorated to such an extent that students of Bihar now have to migrate to different states and countries to study. In this article, we will discuss the Education system in Bihar.
According to a recent survey, The capital of Bihar, Patna has more schools than New Delhi. Patna has become an Educational hub for the Eastern India. It is an important center for preparation of exams like IIT, IAS, Engineering and Medical entrance. The quality education of schools in better in Patna than New Delhi. But Bihar still lacks behind in Higher Education. Although, there is quality primary and secondary education but there is no quality higher education which the main reason of migration of students outside Bihar.
As far as primary education or Education till 12th grade is concerned, Bihar is the best place to study. There are a lot of great schools in Bihar. They are Don Bosco Academy, DAV public school, St. Michael, St. Joseph Convent(for girls), Notre Dame Academy, St. Joseph, St. Paul. But when it comes to technical institutes such as engineering colleges or medical colleges, Bihar lacks behind. Although there are good scope of higher education for girls with Patna Women's College or JD Women's College but there are hardly any quality engineering or medical college present which forces a student to migrate outside to study and once a youth leaves home, he/she never returns back.
More over a lot of emphasis in Bihar is given on becoming a doctor or an engineer or an IAS officer instead of opting for journalism, fashion or animation. You will find a lot of Bihar people to be doctors and engineers rather than a fashion designer or a photographer. The reason is that education culture at Bihar is such that young students can't think anything beyond the scope of engineering or medical or IAS. If Bihar has to progress, people will have to come out of this old school thought. No doubt despite the few opportunities present in Bihar for higher education, students are wise and bold enough on not compromising on education but here has to be more professionals in other fields as well.
There are also lack of entrepreneur skills in youth of Bihar. They say Karnataka has Narayan Murthy(of Infosys), Bengal has Subrat Roy(of Sahara), Gujrat has Ambanis but Bihar has none. This is the main reason for people of Bihar to lack behind these states. We need a great team, a corporate house that develop the business opportunities in Bihar. There must be foreign direct investment to make it a huge factor to stop migration. These all steps begins at home when you try to educate the youth. With proper guidance and great education, youth of Bihar can do wonders.
We also need an initiative from education ministry of Bihar to take proper steps in opening technical institutes for students of Bihar which will help them to stay in their state and also attract students from different states. If we all work towards these steps, we will see a rise in education system of Bihar which will be very fruitful for betterment of Bihar and its people.
We believe education system and education culture can definately change if youth takes up the responsibility to make this change. On that note, we finish this analysis hoping to see a great future for Bihar and its students.
